Santa Barbara CDS goes big!

Updated: Oct 1

Our August 17th & 18th, 2024 Central Coast RAAC Dressage show was the biggest show we've had in years!!!

The energy flowed through our three arenas and two warm-up arenas. We also had the bonus of a fortified Vendor Village.

With 123 competitors, our judges Jeanne McDonald, Debbie Riehl-Rodrigues, and Tegan Kossowicz were very busy observing our horse & rider teams and had the difficult task to score every movement. Needless to say, there was a lot of competition and all the riders, especially our High Point winners should be very proud of their performances.

When you see our High Point winners at the next show or event, take a second to congratulate them. We are proud of Kelsey Laity, Avery Klein, Britt Sabbah, Samantha Gioia, Anne Cole, Sylvia Rogen, Michelle Morseth and Kim Stouffer. Also, pull out a few extra treats {just ask their owner first if treats are ok :-} for Chocolate Thunder, Gjaleano, Delilah III, CP Witching Hour, Gezario, Shine On Titan's Silver, Dr. Diamont, Floyd Patterson, Mazejaz, because we all know it takes two to Dressage!

Congratulations to our chapter members who qualified and went to the 57th CDS Championship Show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center August 26-29th. Those members include Chloe Adrian-Giannetto on Duvall, Julie Corlett with Barolo Gold, Tim Forster with Baba O'Riley, Bea Freels on Figgy Pudding, Michelle Freels on Wynnona, Avery Klein on Gjaleano, Michelle Morseth with Floyd Petterson, Katherine Sulzbach with Fogoso, Bridgett Walker riding Lingote and Susan Walker with Don Amour N. This is so exciting and we are extremely proud of them.

We spoke to many competitors, trainers and visitors after the show. Our competitors really appreciated the SB CDS staff and volunteers and the opportunity to show. Local trainer Madison Wagner said that “the weather was super at the August show. Earl Warren is always a great venue for my younger horses to get exposure and gain confidence in the show ring. We always appreciate a show that’s local and run by an experienced crew!" Michelle and B Freels always appreciate the shows at Earl Warren for the accommodating weather, even in August! Everything ran smoothly from their point of view, the footing was great and the judges scores were consistent with other shows. Michelle said "The Chapter's Tack sale is such a highlight and attracts equestrians from outside the local community and not just show attendees.| B shared that she loves the ribbons because the added black add to the colors and look so professional. Both were excited about the fantastic prizes.

Lynne Sherman’s Tack Sale is always a favorite at our show. Bargain hunters dive in for quality, used tack at rock bottom prices. We are grateful to Lynne for all of the gathering, cleaning, storing, hauling, displaying, pricing and selling!

Other vendors who hung a shingle were, Dressage Queen Dream, Equis Mart Tack, Horse Coin Jewelry, Style on the Go, Elevated Equestrian, Brooke Doss Dressage, and Twenty-four Carrots (scroll down to visit their websites).

All of these vendors added a spirited energy to our show.

Avery Klein and "Georgie" (Gjaleano)

Our competitors, volunteers and spectators surely walked away from our show with some fine treasures. After spending almost three days together with everyone, it was sad to say good-bye.

We want to acknowledge and thank all the class sponsors and show sponsors for this show. Everyone stepped up and made this show the big success that it was. A shout out to Lisa White for coordinating the vendors and to everyone for supporting our chapter. Please find our complete list of current sponsors HERE.

Thank you to Mary Couch, Madison Wagner, Lisa White, Tory Names, Lynne Sherman, Avery Klein and Nicole Walther for contributing to this article with words and photos.
